Aspects to take into account when carrying out performance evaluations

The first half of 2020 is coming to an end and many are beginning to question whether they will be able to carry out their performance evaluations or what changes they will need to make to be able to do so.

While coordinating the evaluation process has never been an easy task, this year will present additional challenges as most teams have been forced to change their way of operating, whether in terms of time and/or location.

It is very likely that the objectives that were set at the beginning of the year have been modified or replaced to adjust to the situation that is being faced.

How can companies ensure that they measure and evaluate their employees?

This word that we hear now frequently as “performance management” instead of “performance evaluation” is the way to achieve this, it is a change in the way we approach this process.

Talking about management implies that it is a constant process that must be carried out to objectively monitor the performance of the members of a team.

This is ideally made possible with a tool that allows reporting on the different activities that people are carrying out to meet their objectives. This not only makes it easier to systematically and periodically monitor the tasks being carried out, but also allows verification of whether they are aligned and impacting the business objective.

Evaluation is necessary and gives the company the opportunity to better understand and analyze the qualities, skills and technical knowledge that still need to be worked on and improved in employees.

It is important to continue with this type of process for 5 reasons:

  • Promotes productivity
  • Supports the incentive and compensation policy
  • Facilitates the succession process that ensures business continuity
  • Detect and make visible training needs
  • Motivates the person to improve

Every interaction is an opportunity to congratulate and highlight the effort people are making to adapt to these new ways of working.

Therefore, making performance evaluation a constant activity allows us to approach collaborators more frequently, promoting participation and generating trust in the process.
